Paint Removal and Steam Cleaning

Render Removal

Authentic Stone Restorations can remove render or thick lime wash from walls to expose the stone or brick underneath. We use a variety of gentle techniques for this and we understand how delicate a job this can be.

Sometimes it isn't always as big a job as it sounds. All debris and rubbish is always removed from site. This can make for a cheap and effective renovation and restoration adding equity into your investment.

Salt Damp Treatments

UNDERSETTING

Authentic Stone Restorations can repair salt damp affected walls properly by undersetting, giving you peace of mind. The way to do this is to remove and discard all salt damp affected stone or brick usually 250mm to 350mm high.

A plastic viscourse membrane or (DPC Damp Proof Course) then needs to be inserted and the wall rebuilt with new or second hand (reclaimed) material. This is done safely in several stages of around one meter long.

Every incident is different; there are other measures that need to take place as prevention. There may be drainage issues or paints and sealers holding in moisture.

Cavity walls can often be full of debris stopping adequate ventilation. Sacrificial mortars or plasters may be needed to draw out salts and moisture, these can be left sometimes for years and will ensure the longevity and health of the wall.

CHEMICAL INJECTION

Authentic Stone Restorations an chemically inject any affected areas. Second to undersetting injection, it is a very successful and cheap way to insert a (DPC Damp Proof Course), often suitable for mild fretting or as a further prevention in the restoration process.

Authentic Stone Restorations specialises in stone repointing and is able to replicate, restore or redo any style or colour. All specialist stone repointing such as tuck repointing, ribbon repointing and fine line repointing as well as all brick repointing including cut and struck and fine line brick pointing etc.

Lime putty is the key ingredient to quality and durable stone or brick repointing. Lime actually helps draw moisture from the wall and lets it breathe, unlike hard cement mortar which can trap in moisture. This can force moisture up higher or out through the stone or brick, thus encouraging dampness and fretting.
